Arms Trade Treaty debate

Final negotiations for the UN Arms Trade Treaty are scheduled to take place in July 2012.

What can we expect from the Arms Trade Treaty? What are the implications of the treaty with regards to the protection of human rights? What substantial difference will the treaty make? And is there such thing as ‘responsible’ arms trade?

As part of the Kingston University Human Rights Festival a panel of experts will discuss these and other questions. Be invited to join this fascinating debate and share your concerns with the members of the panel.

Confirmed panel members:

  • Barnaby Pace – Member of steering committee Campaigns Against Arms Trade (CAAT) and researcher, including at “The Shadow Project” by Andrew Feinstein.

  • John Duncan – Former UK Ambassador for Arms Control and Disarmament in Geneva

  • Oliver Sprague – Programme Director Military Security and Police at Amnesty International UK

  • Professor Philip Spencer will chair the panel.

At the end of the formal session refreshments will be provided and there will be opportunity to informally continue the discussion.
